The choice between wireless vs wired headphones is always a difficult one. A good pair of headphones should shut the world out and immerse you in sound (or silence!). Technology has got to the point where each have their own merits and both are acceptable choices. In this blog post, we’ll take you through 3 important things to think about when making your decision.

If you go with wireless headphones, you’ll probably notice early on that they are really convenient. Grab ’em from your bag and slap them on – without having to worry about untangling any cables. It’ll take a few seconds to connect them to your device, but once there, you don’t need to worry about any unwieldy wires getting caught around your body.

If you go wireless, pay attention to the listen/talk time you can get on a full charge. Our favorite two pairs that we sell have listen/talk times of 9 and 14 hours. Aim for something near 10. It’s no good being on a long haul flight, then they run out just after takeoff.

With wireless headphones, you should recharge them overnight, but it can definitely be a bit of an inconvenience having to worry about this all the time. There’s nothing worse than getting on a long train journey, then seeing your headphones have no juice.

Sound Quality

In this war between wireless vs wired headphones, sound quality is paramount. First, lets point out that the gap in sound quality has lessened over the years. There was a time when wired headphones had a far superior sound – now not so much.

Die-hard audiophiles will claim the difference is clear to see, because yes, only so much information can be passed over Bluetooth. But, for us mere mortals, you probably won’t notice the difference. Especially if you go with a really high quality pair of wireless headphones.

We saw recently, Apple’s new iPhone comes without a 3.5mm audio jack. HTC have followed suit. It seems reasonable to assume that smart device companies are moving away from wired connections.

Before blowing hundreds of dollars on a quality pair of wired headphones, think about what device you’re going to have in 2-3 years. Can you say with certainty that it’ll have a 3.5mm audio jack? You don’t want to have to choose your next smartphone depending on whether it has an audio jack.

In the end, when choosing between wireless vs wired headphones, it comes down to personal preference.

If you’re looking for the best possible sound quality, and you don’t want to bother recharging them every other day – grab a wired set.

If you’re looking to the future and love wireless freedom, go with a wireless set.

I’ve been considering getting wireless so I can work out at the gym unhindered. My wired have just packed up in one ear, so reading this has been a no brainer decision for me…thanks
