A recent trend we’ve hopped on here at the The Urban Upgrade is wood design. We stock a beautiful wooden watch, and now wooden rings too. Understandably, we get quite a lot of questions about using wood as a design material. The design looks beautiful, but the worry for most is the durability of wood rings. We thought we’d take the opportunity to answer the question: Are Wood Rings a Good Idea? We think they are. Here’s why.
The variant we sell is an inlaid wood ring. This means the wood is sandwiched nicely between titanium steel. Titanium steel is one of the most durable metals out there.
Although the wood is treated with resin to be tougher and more durable, we chose an inlaid design to give you peace of mind that your ring will go the distance. Your wood ring will not break easily – it’s just as durable as any stainless steel or titanium ring.
We’ve seen some vendors say that inlaid wood rings are indestructible. Don’t believe that – all rings can be broken under extreme pressure, no matter what the material.
If you’re asking are wood rings a good idea because of the durability question, let us reassure you. We’ll say it again. Our wood ring is designed to last as long as any other stainless steel or titanium ring (A lifetime!).
Wood rings are still relatively new to the market, so you’ll likely be a unique owner in your circle. We’ve found they’re great conversation starters and are usually noticed.
They say a lot about a person too. Because they’re made from a renewable material (get planting trees people!), you’re letting people know you’re environmentally conscious.
Because inlaid wood rings are combined with stainless steel, they’re completely waterproof. Be careful of fully wood rings, these are not.
But with an inlaid ring, don’t worry about taking it off in the shower.
So, are wood rings a good idea? Absolutely they are. All the potential downsides are covered by smart design in most wood rings. Inlaid wood rings especially, are more durable than you’d expect and even waterproof.
If you love the design, don’t hesitate to pick one up. We think you’ll be surprised at their hard-wearing properties.
