Advancing craftsmanship means we can now do stuff with wood we couldn’t have dreamed of even 20 years ago. Wooden belts, rings and now watches are starting to pop. With a beautiful aesthetic look and that natural feel, we can certainly see why. At The Urban Upgrade, we’re huge fans of wooden watches – here’s our 3 reasons why wooden watches are trending.
Wooden watches have to be individually handcrafted. It’s an incredibly difficult process that results in these beautiful watches. Many stainless steel watches are easily machined these days – with a wooden watch you always know you’re getting something someone cared for hours on.
Therefore, no two wooden watches are ever exactly the same. Your watch may have different grain markings than your friends, or even be a slightly different shade. Your watch is exactly that – yours.
Most watches are made from metals or plastics – these aren’t renewable materials. Wooden watches are usually made from responsibly sourced wood. And the kicker is that wood is (or should be) renewable.
We’ve still got some ways to go, but happily tree conservation and re-planting is at a record high and we can begin to envisage a future where we’ll have unlimited access to wood.
In a world where more and more people are becoming environmentally conscious (quite right too!), this is a major reason why wooden watches are trending right now.
Ever had an ugly mark or a rash from a metal watch? This is actually really common – a few years ago I had to return a really expensive watch I’d gotten as a gift because I kept coming out in a rash.
This is because I was allergic to some of the compounds in the metal. If you’ve ever had this issue, know that you wouldn’t have it with a wooden watch.
So, here’s why wooden watches are trending. Each one is unique, they’re good for the environment and you won’t get a nasty rash from wearing one. Not to mention, they look absolutely beautiful and you can wear them with just about anything.
Manufacturing costs of wooden watches have started to come down over the past year and those savings should (hopefully) be passed on to watch lovers worldwide.
As a result, we’re able to offer our favourite wooden watch for $70. You can pick it up with a black or white face here:
