We all use our smartphones, tablets and laptops everyday. For most of us, our smart devices are an extension of ourselves – more like another body part than a simple gadget. For those of us who are constantly on the go, battery power is a real issue. Sure, low power mode works fine, but the likes of Apple haven’t figured out how to really solve this issue. Most of us charge our phones twice a day. This is where a mobile power bank comes in handy. Here’s our favourite 3 reasons why a mobile power bank can be really useful.
A mobile power bank really comes into its own for the traveller. When you’re constantly moving from place to place and don’t know when you’ll next have access to a power outlet, you need your gadgets to last at least all day. As a constant traveller, I always use my phone for the best travelling apps, like maps.me or revolut. Travelling would be so much more difficult without technology.
Imagine your phone dies and you’re hopelessly lost in a country where you don’t speak the language. Sure, you’d get out of it eventually – but why take on that stress if you don’t need to? For the traveller, a mobile power bank is really about safety, as well as convenience – you want to know where you’re going and how you’re getting there.
For years, I’d been an advocate of mobile charging cases. However, after using a mobile power bank, I can say I’d never go back. A good mobile power bank should let you charge multiple devices, all at the same time – a charging case can’t do that. Our favourite power bank lets you charge up to 3 devices simultaneously.
A few weeks ago, I was sat in a hammock in rural Cambodia typing a blog post, whilst my laptop and phone sat charging next to me. Heavens knows where the nearest power outlet was. But that’s the point – I didn’t have to find out.
Amount of Charges
A half decent mobile power bank should get you multiple charges of all your devices. Look for one that has at least 6000 mAh. We’ve heard of some banks with 1000 mAh that only get you half a charge of your smartphone. Great for an emergency – but the price doesn’t make sense when a good one is only fractionally more expensive.
We recommend going for a mobile power bank that has 10000 mAh. This’ll give you at least 3 charges on even the newest, most battery consuming smartphones.
Mobile power banks are really good for anyone who is looking for a bit more convenience in their lives. But, we think they really come to the fore for a traveller. If you’re relying on technology to travel, we think they’re almost an essential. It’s really a peace of mind thing.
